With great skill, compassion and insight, Linda Blachman has succeeded in capturing the truth behind the everyday lives of mothers with cancer and their loved ones—the challenges, triumphs and losses. An inspirational read, Another Morning is an artfully woven collection of poignant, yet clearly honest stories told in the women's own words.
A decade ago, Blachman—a Berkeley personal historian, counselor, and specialist in maternal and child health—founded the Mothers Living Story Project in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide support for mothers with cancer. Her idea was to act as a witness to their stories, enabling the women to create and preserve a special legacy of their own personal histories for their children.
The author has portrayed with sensitivity the essence of each of the women featured in Another Morning, while respectfully enhancing their message with her perceptive editorial comments.
Rather than a plea for a cause, the overall premise as perceived by this reader is a deeper appreciation for the indomitable spirit and strength that comes shining through in the voices of women faced with almost insurmountable challenges. This book is a must-read for women with cancer, their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and just about anyone else with a beating heart.
