Nandini Pandya has gathered together a collection of essays that first appeared in the online journal Desijournal.com written by Indian men and women who left home to settle in the United States for various reasons. Each essay is in its own way eclectic, humorous, sensitive, and engaging and provides insight into the allure of living in the USA and the difficulties and joys experienced as they met new people, connected with other Indians for support, learned the habits and traditions of Americans and eventually assimilated into the American culture.
Nandini Pandya is originally from Mumbai and lives in Connecticut. She is the designer and founder (along with Poornima Apte) of Desijournal, and the editor of Abroad at Home. A graduate of I.I.T. Bombay, she recently obtained a second graduate degree in research statistics. Working with numbers is her vocation, writing her avocation. One of these days she hopes to combine the two.
