Martha Meacham has a home nestled in motts of live oak and clumps of junipers on a piece of hardscrabble land southwest of Austin. The gentle rolling hills nearby remind her of the glacial drumlins of upstate New York where she grew up before leaving for college in Mexico.
As a youthful wanderer in Central America, Martha traveled and learned much from native people on pathways in places where there were no maps and often no other "outsiders." With a backpack and Swiss army knife in her pocket, she traversed mountain ridges and deep dolinas throughout Mexico and Guatemala in the 1970's & 80's. That journey landed her in Austin where she finished a Master's in Anthropology and later a Ph.D. in Education.
She first became a SCN member at the Lifelines Retreat in 2007. She now serves as Vice President on the Board of Story Circle Network and cobbles together the SCN podcast every month.
Martha works as an instructional designer with faculty to develop multimedia learning materials. Writing, reading, gardening, landscaping and dog training fill her leisure time.
