You are challenged to take part in the HerStories Memoir Challenge! 4 women's memoirs in 4 months—can you do that? If you need incentive (but, really, how many of us need bribery to read books?), we'll have prizes! This challenge starts January 1, 2009, and runs through April. Join us.

Telling Herstories

You are invited to join us for our monthly podcast. This month: stories from SCN members in Yemen, as well as Stories of the Month and some good ideas for writing prompts.

You are welcome (if you're an SCN member!) to join our Yahoo SCN LifeWriters Group. Bring a cup of coffee, log on, and enjoy chatting with your SCN sisters.

Susan Cummins Miller
Susan Cummins Miller is the editor of an outstanding collection of thirty-four women writers who lived from the early days of the American frontier until midway through the twentieth century. Reviewing the anthology, Susan Wittig Albert writes: "A Sweet, Separate Intimacy makes a vitally important contribution to our understanding and appreciation of the lives and work of women writers who would otherwise continue in the obscurity into which many of them have fallen."

Susan Albert interviewed Susan for the SCN-BR site.

Broadly Speaking:
Women Write about Writing & Reading

"I only wish I could write with both hands, so as not to forget one thing while I am saying another."
—St. Teresa of Avila

"I learned that you should feel when writing, not like Lord Byron on a mountain top, but like a child stringing beads in kindergarten — happy, absorbed and quietly putting one bead on after another."
—Brenda Ueland
